VAT)\n\nThe edition is based on a hand-moulded foot \u2013 a recurring motif in Baselitz\u2019s work. The artist often describes the foot as a self-portrait and how his \u201cconnection is not upwards, but rather downwards\u201d. Baselitz transforms the foot into rarified gold, a technique he employs in his recent bronze fire-gilded works. He previously remarked that he\u2019d always desired to create sculptures out of gold \u201cbut never dared to do so\u201d \u2013 until now. His gold pendent limited edition is an evolution of Baselitz\u2019s sculptural practice from roughly hewn timber sculptures in Sculptures 2011-2015 to hand-moulded works, continuing his exploration of the complexity of memory and rough edges of humanity.
